With time, women suffer from biological deficiencies that lead to aging. Not only do bones and skin age but hair changes too, becoming visibly thinner and more vulnerable. For Kérastase, this transformation can be explained by 3 characteristics present in mature hair:
- FIBRO-POROSITY* - LOSS of DENSITY - DRY SCALP
*Hair condition characterized by excessive weakness in the hair fibre due to deficiencies in the hair and a loss of melanin.
WHAT IS FIBRO-POROSITY ? An excessive weakness specific to mature hair, which can be explained by three characteristics:
1 . YOUR HAIR IS STRUCTURALLY WEAKENED The intercellular cement in mature hair may be impaired. Age Premium contains ingredients that help to strengthen the hair and improve elasticity.
2 . YOUR HAIR IS MORE SENSITIVE TO RADIATION The whitening of hair over time is due to a gradual reduction in melanin, the color pigment of the hair. Melanin traditionally performs a protective role and absorbs some of the sun's rays. White hair is therefore more sensitive when exposed to the sun. With exposure to UV rays, the hair becomes weak.
3 . IMPAIRMENT OF THE SURFACE CONDITION OF YOUR HAIR The effects of the environment can lead to the erosion of the cells on the surface hair fibre. The hair can become more fragile, damaged and dull.

WHAT IS DRY SCALP? A sign of biological slowing down explained by a reduction in sebum production.
1 . SEBUM PROTECTS THE SCALP Located in the dermis, the sebaceous glands produce sebum. After being excreted on the surface of the scalp, sebum combines with sweat to create the hydrolipidic layer that protects the scalp and ensures elasticity of the hair.
2 . WITH AGE, THE AMOUNT OF SEBUM DECREASES With age hormonal imbalances lead to a continual reduction in the amount of sebum produced. The scalp is less protected and is prone to becoming dry. “This shampoo is wonderful for mature hair as it's gentle without ever drying or stripping hair particularly since it's designed for mature hair. It contributes to shine and manageabilty. The shampoo is thicker in substance so a little goes a long way. I also recommend the shampoo be used with the Masque Substantif, also designed for mature hair. When used together you will have marvelously conditioned and better shine in the hair. Even without the use of styling products or blow drying, my hair has a beautiful shine since using these two products designed to be used together. ”
